about me
I didn't build this site for clout, but there's a sterotype that technical writers are boring. Giving you a fuller picture of who I am might elevate the profession. Or it may feed the stereotype. I guess it's ultimately up to the observer.
- I mill my own grain. My favorite grains right now are spelt and emmer, and variety of hard white called "Clark's Cream". It's wildly expensive, but I just can't quit it.
- I have three beehives and I got a small pop up pool over the summer that's always full of bees.
- I grow a variety of comfrey called Bocking 4, and I'm always on the lookout for old esoteric books about the Symphytum genus.
- I am a Field Notes and Traveler's Noteboook junkie. Note taking by hand keeps me sharp.
- I use a flip phone and only go online on a desktop. I keep up with "stuff" only as it relates to my hobbies or the field I'm in. This has given me eminently controllable focus and an unrivaled attention span in 2025.
- My post-tech retirement plan vacillates between owning a small town laundromat or opening a mill where people can come get fresh milled grains and gossip for a bit.
I'm also trying to overcome my aversion to fiction and other forms of non-technical writing by doing some creative writing in fits. I'm also trying to make reading a practice.
